The Nahum Family
This Nahum family was founded in the United States by Louis H. Nahum, who
came from Lithuania as a boy in 1904. Despite these humble roots, he became
a doctor in New Haven, Connecticut.
He was on the faculty of the
Yale Medical School
in the
Department of Cellular and
Molecular Physiology,
which honors him with an
Annual Memorial Lecture and awards exceptional students with the
Dr. Louis H. Nahum Prize.
Here is a
picture from 1936; he is in the middle row, third from left.
He also helped found the
Albert Einstein College of Medicine
at
Yeshiva University
as an executive committee member of the
Advisory Council on Medical Education.
The name "Nahum" comes from one of the
prophets in the
Bible.
